General History General HistoryThe Church of God of Prophecy is a vibrant, worldwide body of believers, united in worship, working hand-in-hand to share Gods love and a message of hope to the broken-hearted. Every 24 hours around the globe:Over 500 people receive salvation Over 200 people are baptized in water Over 10,000 preaching venues are actively declaring the gospel. At least one new church opens its doors every day to touch a local community through the efforts of this movement.The Church of God of Prophecy has over one million members, worshipping in over 10,000 churches or missions in 125 nations of the world. Local History History of COGOP GloucesterThe Church of God of Prophecy is a large organisation stretching beyond the boundaries of Gloucester, with it's origins in Cleveland, Tennessee, USAThe Church of God of Prophecy was organised in Gloucester by Aston. L. Cooke in 1961 with 5 members with their meetings held at Greyfriars Rd.Aston Cook was the Pastor, Richard James Bryan was the church leader, L. Wright was the treasurer and M. Campbell was the church clerk.With the Afro Caribbean workers arriving from Jamaica, settling in Gloucester and being in a close community. The were attracted to the church and as a result the church grew. By November 1961 there were 10 members with many of these being school children.The church experienced a continued growth with more people arriving from Jamaica. People received salvation as offered by the scriptures and the Sunday school began to grow and thrive.In 1962 J. Bryan was appointed as Pastor and M. S. Lewis became a church leader. In 1964 M. S. Lewis was appointed as the local Pastor.In 1966 the local church members bought a building at Melbourne Street East under the leadership of M. S. Lewis.In July 1967 H.A. Barclay was appointed as Pastor. In November 1972 there was a rededication of the local building, which was attended by over 250 people. The councillor of Tredworth was also present. H.A. Barclay continued as Pastor at the local church until D.W. McCalla was appointed as Pastor in 1982 and still serves as Pastor today.

Beliefs BeliefsFrom its beginning, the Church of God of Prophecy has based its beliefs on the "whole Bible rightly divided." We accept the Bible as God's Holy Word, inspired, inerrant, and infallible. We believe the Bible to be God's written revelation of Himself to mankind and our guide in all matters of faith; therefore, we look to the Bible as our highest authority for doctrine, practice, organization, and discipline.It was a strong desire to rely solely on the Bible that led the early pioneers of the church to declare their willingness to be free from all man-made creeds and traditions, to take the New Testament as their only rule of faith and practice, and to give each other equal rights and privileges to read and interpret the Bible as their consciences might dictate. These basic tenets remain intact today; however, as the church grew and spread throughout the world, it was seen that there was safety in a "multitude of counsellors" when making doctrinal decisions. Thus, today, all doctrinal matters are agreed upon in one accord by the General Assembly.The Church of God of Prophecy is firm in its commitment to orthodox Christian belief. We affirm that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in the physical miracles He performed, in His atoning death on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory at His Second Coming. We profess that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential for the salvation of sinful man. We believe that sanctification by the blood of Christ makes possible personal holiness. We affirm the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling we are able to live godly lives and have power for service. We believe in the ultimate unity of believers, as prayed for by our Lord Jesus Christ in John 17. We believe in the sanctity of human life; we are also committed to the sanctity of the marriage bond and the importance of strong, loving Christian families.Furthermore, the church makes prominent other biblical doctrines that have clear New Testament support but may not always be espoused by modern Christianity. These "Important Bible Truths" constitute some of the doctrinal beliefs and practices that enable the Church of God of Prophecy to be named among those organizations that preach the fundamental principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. These truths are an indication of our continuing commitment to walk in the light of God's Holy Word to the best of our knowledge and ability. Bishop Donald McCalla | Pastor

Bishop Donald Wilton McCalla, aged 65, has been married to his beloved wife, Blanche, for the past 41 years. The Lord has blessed their union with three children and four grandchildren; with a fifth on the way. His ministry started as a Deacon at the former Peel Street Church, now Aberdeen Street, Handsworth in Birmingham. In 1976, he went on to pastor at the George Street Church, Balsall Heath also in Birmingham until 1982. Following this pastorate, he left the West Midlands Region to pastor the churches in Gloucester and Stroud. The Stroud Church, he pastored for one year and continues to pastor the Melbourne Street East Church in Gloucester until the present day. He has served as Regional Overseer for Region Three, South West of England and South Wales, since 1995. During this time, he has pastored some of the smaller churches in the Region; with the help and support of some of the other ministers. These churches include Swindon, Trowbridge, Cardiff and Newport; while still serving as pastor for Gloucester. As the senior Bishop in the Region, he has now decided to share the responsibility of overseership with two of the younger pastors, whose role it will be to assist him in his duties and share some of the weight of responsibility. His passion for Region Three is to see growth in each local church both spiritually and numerically and to encourage close working relationships with the many Bible-believing Christians in the Region to help build the Kingdom of God. Bishop McCalla was installed as an Ecumenical Canon of Gloucester Cathedral (Gloucester) on 22nd November 2008; an honour that was not only reported in the local press, but in the Church Times, the world's leading Anglican weekly newspaper. He has worked with other denominational clergy in the city of Gloucester for many years; he has served as Chaplain for three consecutive years to the Mayor and Sheriff of Gloucester and is very much involved in the social aspects of the community of Gloucester. The vision for this region in the coming years includes: Seeing the local churches win new souls for Christ and that those churches will become vibrant local churches in the areas in which they serve. That all the Lay Ministers in the region will complete the ministerial training course, so that we will have more pastors to take on the work. That we will have an empowering Regional Convention in May 2010. That we will have an ongoing nurturing, training and development programme for the ministry in this region. To improve the communication links across the region both for ministers and laity alike.

Blanche McCalla | Women's Ministry Director

Blanche McCalla became a born again Christian at the age of 11 years old, and a member of Church of God of Prophecy at the age of 12 years. She has a passion for the work of the Lord also for this church. Blanche sees the church as her home and has served her for 51 years, in which she has served in many different ministries. She is married to Bishop Donald McCalla, who is pastor the local congregation in Gloucester. They have three wonderful children and 5 grandchildren who they cared deeply for and about, and they enjoy spending time and interacting with them. Blanche has served in both national and regional director positions and presently serves as the Womens Ministry in GloucesterBlanche spent her entire working life as a Registered General Nurse and also as Nurse/Counsellor with people who have Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Anaemia. Blanche has a passion and genuine zeal for Christian education and building the Kingdom of God and serves actively as a Sunday school teacher.She is passionate about my Christian living, serves in the worship team, a counsellor and as a lay-minister. Blanche is also actively involved in the community supporting Carers. She has a love for people of all age groups and a proven capacity to interact with all people in a spirit of sisterly/brotherly love.

Our MissionThe mission of Childrens Ministries here at the Church of God of Prophecy is to inspire, equip, and affirm childrens ministry leaders.Ministry PhilosophyOur ministry leaders and children should be characterized by:Dependence on God demonstrated by a commitment to prayer, study of the Word of God, and obedience to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Womens Ministry Women's MinistriesWomens Ministries in the Church of God of Prophecy defines a resource centre providing assistance in ministering to the needs of women, providing ministry opportunities for women, and increasing awareness of mission needs. As women experience spiritual and personal growth, they will spontaneously, become vessels through which the grace of God is enlarged. The outreach of this resource centre is accomplished by several means including regular communication with Regional/National womens leaders within the Church of God of Prophecy.Vision for Ministry:Many questions continue to form in this day as to where women fit into the ministry spectrum for this last day. In fact, the role of women in church leadership, ministry, and discipleship is an issue that has challenged man (male and female) for generations. In view of the world's needs, this is an especially significant question to be addressed in this day to discover scriptural concepts for providing direction.While this history factors in when considering the responsibilities of women, women's needs are basically the same as with others:To accept Christ as the Son of God and as personal Lord and SaviourTo be sanctified holy for His useTo be filled with the Holy SpiritTo develop a disciplined prayer and devotional lifeTo know and begin using our spiritual giftsTo function within the context of a local church fellowship and Christian communityTo be able to share faith with othersTo strengthen relationships with husband, family and friends and develop positive parenting skillsTo have the mind of Christ
